We recognise the history of our community through our language – Italian
Learning languages in addition to English extends student’s literacy repertoires and their capacity to communicate. It strengthens student’s understanding of the nature of language, culture, and the processes of communication.
At St. Monica’s the children learn Italian and each class is allocated one 40 minute lesson per week. In Italian classes students are taught language related to everyday situations and opportunity is provided for role play activities.
The program provides students with the opportunity to be exposed to both vocabulary related to everyday situations and learn about another culture.
We also celebrate Multicultural Day where the children take part in various activities to enhance their learning about Italy and other countries of the world.
